ITIL® V2/V3In the past few years, ITIL has gradually transformed to meet the needs of a modern IT world. ITIL V2, a well-respected ITSM program for many years, has been updated to incorporate the latest industry expertise and knowledge in the ITIL Qualification Scheme. As a result, ITIL V3 was introduced in 2007 as a replacement for ITIL V2. Since then ITIL V3 has been improved, refined and is now in wide acceptance in the global market. The withdrawal plan for ITIL V2 is a result of feedback from the IT sector and training community gathered as part of market research conducted by the ITIL Qualifications Board.

Discontinuation ITIL® V2In October 2009, the ITIL Qualification Board announced that the entire ITIL V2 program would be officially discontinued by June 30, 2011. The exams, however, will be withdrawn in phases starting this summer. The first exam to be removed is the ITIL V2 Foundation exam. As of July 1, 2010, the ITIL V2 Foundation exam will only be available to re-sit candidates. Candidates wishing to start an ITSM qualification program after that date have the opportunity to begin with the newest program ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000 or ITIL V3, both of which are available from EXIN.
